Superfood Smoothie

Well, it may not be Summer in San Francisco, but it practically feels like it! A great day for a superfood superyummy smoothie. Here’s a simple recipe:
10 oz. apple juice
1 cup blueberries
a handful shredded kale
a tablespoon partially ground flax seeds
a teaspoon of spirulina
one sliced mango
a scoop of yogurt or protein powder

Combine all ingredients in a blender, and let technology work it’s magic. I find this to be a satisfying and fortifying blend.

Mmm, sounds yummy! I have also been making (and drinking) smoothies lately. There’s a smoothie that’s sold at the Samba Rock Cafe in Santa Cruz called the “Joe Carioca.” The ingredients are as follows:
-acai (I’m not sure which form of it they use there, but I use a packet of the unsweetened puree by Sambazon.)
-kale (I throw a hearty handful in there)
    -avocado (I use 1/2.)
-milk of your choice (I like almond or coconut and use about a cup.)
-tsp of spirulina (or of HealthForce Nurtritonals’ Vita Mineral Green, which is a blend of green foods from the land and sea)
-protein powder of your choice (They use hemp; I’ve used various kinds at home–coconut, rice, whey, etc.)
-the juice from 1/2 a lime

(I think you can take it from here!)

That sound delish! I love the acai berry protein smoothie that Plant Organic Cafe in San Francisco makes. Actually, theirs is what got me hooked on smoothies again…
